Handing off copy to L. last night took longer than I thought, so I had to buy my lunch today–tofurky on a roll with mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomato, aka My Sandwich At the Pub. I had a bag of oatmeal raisin cookies in my hand but at the last minute opted for a bag of chips instead. Salty! MBWF went to lunch with M. today, so I was on my own. I read the Arts and Metro sections of the paper in the dapple by the administrative building and enjoyed feeling like the cover of a college viewbook. I dropped a chip on the ground and was just going to let it sit there, but a little bird swooped in and took this chip, roughly two thirds its size, into its beak and flew wobblily off under a tree to do some snacking.

What a lovely pastoral scene! I confess that I don’t miss Pub sandwiches or any kind of Pub food all that much. Although, now it occurs to me that they surely would have made me grilled cheese sammiches with bacon and tomato if I asked for it. It would probably not cost 99 cents, though.

lucky happy bird. Today for lunch I had a small bowl of boiled potatoes, seasoned with a bit of imitation butter, salt, and pepper. This somewhat impoverished lunch was the result of baby’s dad only making that for the “grown-ups” to eat (I was baby-care today), but it’s hard to resist a more psychoanalytic reading (I, babysitter, having recently rebuffed, though gently, the come-on of baby daddy’s wife). So, just boiled potatoes for me. sigh.

Today I learned that if you do something nice and not at all out of the way for a neighbor, you might get an invitation for lunch. The resident HLO50 (hot lady over fifty) on my floor made me a DElicious flounder with wild and regular rice (2 kinds of rice! I am not worthy I tell ya) and corn on the cob. She even offered me some dark chocolate to top it off. But I am not in a topping off kinda mood lately and I declined. I nearly licked my plate it was all so yummy. I felt like the neighborhood latch-key kid again. But my neighbors were not nearly as attractive to me back then.

[...] the summer, Flik has drastically limited their lunch options, and that sadly meant I had to have a different sandwich today (no tofurkey, no rolls) and the jalapeno-flavored chips (no salt and vinegar or plain). So I [...]
