Had the last of the yam chili today, save for two single-serving portions I froze for later (who’s brilliant?!). When I went to heat it up, I thought the microwave was broken–kept pushing buttons to no effect. Nope! It was just unplugged! We unplug everything in the library now due to the profession-wide greening trend. Anyway. I ate it mostly at my desk and then finished it standing up watching J., Cutest Dance Grad Student Ever (CDGSE), and two others perform a ’site-specific dance piece’ in the reference section. It was probably the most use the reference section has gotten all year. When J. covered herself in open volumes of the U.S. Code, I had a small internal panic attack, but I was mostly able to keep it to myself. (J. and the other dancers are very, very cool, so I want them to think that I am cool too.) There was also a random tray of those horrible Italian butter cookies. I ate one that was pink and looked like it was held together with chocolate. I don’t know if I’ll ever get this horrible ‘fruit’ taste out of my mouth.

You are smart to freeze some for later.
I had a turkey sandwich, the kind C. used to make for me. I had no feelings of regret or remorse or missing C.. Just happy to have this sandwich recipe. I ate it while talking to N. on the phone about D-R-A-M-A. Then I wished I had some chips, so I think I’ll go out for some. Or some coffee.

you are *brilliant*, full-stop, or, as they say in my profession, simpliciter. although you are right that this is a clear example of said brilliance here.
and i was already going to comment before i saw that k. had referenced our phone conversation but now that she has i can say that i said, i’m waiting for to see what e. has had for lunch, at which point k. says, me too, OH! she’s posting it now!! *joy in her voice*.
finally, i’m real proud of you for remaining cool under such anxiety-producing circumstances. Keep up the good work!

I love Italian butter cookies. They never taste good, but I always eat them anyway. Somehow I always forget that. And, of course you’re brilliant!! It’s the people who think that unplugging the microwave after every use who aren’t.

I went for coffee, just so you know.

Oh my god. I just had flashbacks to the family gatherings of my Italian Catholic girlhood, which was studded with those damn cookies.

At first I thought you meant those Danish butter cookies. I have no idea if they’re really Danish but I feel like that’s what the tin says.
Last night I was unexpectedly near Whole Foods again so I got more peppered turkey and had another turkey/muenster/mayo/12-grain sandwich. While at Whole Foods I also bought a big bag of potato chips to eat with these sandwiches so I don’t get hungry by 5pm and so that I reduce the amount of packaging garbage I produce and save money. Where’s my gold star?

I am proud to say that I avoided eating my vegetable soup again (it’s been 3 days now) because someone brought a whole bag of bagels and 3 containers of flavored spreads and put it all in the copy machine/mailbox room with a sign that said, “enjoy!” While cutting one of the bagels in half with a plastic (egads!) butter knife, some crumbs dropped onto the work area (stapler, paper clips, paper cutter) and I shuddered–I’d purposefully avoided the sesame bagel–but I picked up the big crumbs that I could see. I feel that free lunch is awesome, but free lunch set out in a room full of papers, mail and supplies is sort of sadistic.

Everyday, I take the same thing to work for lunch and it is yummy. Lemon yogurt with a string cheese to dip and two diet cokes. This lasts all day and as eaten between customers.
One day I took some chicken and it just wasn’t right. I felt slightly upset all day and got some leg bruises from running into furniture. Ouch.
