Today was the final meeting of the Committee on Student Life. I am a regular invited guest, and I really love the free lunch. It’s a long story that I’ll tell you if you want, but we celebrated two members of the Student Affairs staff with their favorite meal today: Pizza and salad. I took a giant pile of lettuce and added some grilled tofu and a few deli slices of tofurkey. I love the tofurkey they get here–it is a pile of smoky, rubbery goodness. I had the balsamic vinegar because I was feeling fat. Then I had a buttered roll (I love buttered rolls; I could live on buttered rolls alone), a slice of pizza (nothing goes better with a buttered roll), and two chocolate chip cookies. G., the assistant director of Academic Computing, comes with me to the meetings. He had like four slices of pizza and a pile of cookies.

OMG OMG OMG. Buttered rolls are made of WIN. I loved getting the buttered rolls at those meetings. Mmmm.

Buttered rolls rock. I basically just love bread in general.
Today I ate a peppered turkey + muenster sandwich on twelve grain bread w/ canola mayo, plus some natural-ish kettle-cooked potato chips and water. Every week I go to Whole Foods and buy lunch meat and cheese and try to make it last through the whole week. I went yesterday, yet somehow between M. and I eating sandwiches for dinner and my one sandwich today, all the turkey is gone. Sadness.

Jack, thank you for telling me what you had for lunch today and why! I have to say, though, that sandwiches for dinner always leave me feeling really sad. Not sure why.

Yummy, I think I might have opted for 2 buttered rolls and 2 slices of pizza. Bread might be a rarity any day now, so, you know. Today I had a bowl of wide noodles with chicken, broccoli, and sprouts from a place called “Slurp” that makes sort of generally “Asian” noodles. A., the friend whose baby I watch on Wednesdays, brought it for me. It was scrumptious, if a little bit salty. The wide noodles were almost as wide as lasagne noodles, but of course completely different consistency and flavor. I like hot lunch, I have to say…
I’ll probably have a vegetable soup and an apple tomorrow because I left them at school yesterday so I can grab them when I’m through teaching…oh, and I also left a Mexican Coke waiting for me! yay! Something to look forward to…besides finding out about your lunch, of course.

I went out for lunch with N. and S. yesterday. I ordered a Diet Coke, but, following their orders for a Sierra Nevada and a margarita, I switched it up and got a Bud Light Lime instead.
The restaurant had a sign outside claiming the drink is “not as bad as you think.” Oddly, they were correct. It’s not! The “natural lime flavor” was suspiciously chemical, but overall the beer was actually slightly better than a regular Bud Light.

I totally understand and sometimes get that feeling myself. But laziness + lack of accessible & cheap options sometimes trumps sandwich sadness.
